Will my bike be acceptable?
Can not have reflectors, pegs, kick stand, or chain guard. (These items can come loose or fall off and cause injury to yourself or a fellow competitor) Must be a BMX style bike. MOUNTAIN BIKES will race in the Cruiser class (bikes with wheels 24 or more inches in diameter.) Your bicycle should be mechanically sound and at least have effective brakes on the rear wheel.

Is BMX dangerous?
If you do not wear a helmet or do not follow proper safety precautions it can be.
If you wear your protective gear and follow all safety precautions, it is no more dangerous than any other organized sport.
How do I register to race?
You may sign up on race-day, and register to race that same day.
Please bring a copy of the racer's birth certificate. (can be produced after registration)
We will supply you with your initial number plate and numbers.
It's RACEDAY!
If you are really nervous and feel you need a "buddy" to help you get through your first race, ask the clerk when you register for the race to assign you a buddy and let them show you the ropes. Practice the entire track, so that you know what to expect during the race. Practice the gate until you feel comfortable with it's operation.
How do I read the moto sheets and make sure I am ready for my race?
Listen for the announcement that "Motos are posted" and go to the moto boards to find out who you will be racing that day. Details on moto sheets and staging.
I have all my race information, what is next?
Listen for the announcement calling "Riders to starting hill/staging". Most track play the National Anthem before the first race starts, so you have some time to prepare yourself.
The gate drops, what can I expect?
You will hear "PEDAL" a lot, and you should listen to the spectators and pedal! Always give your best effort and have FUN!
The race is over, what now?
Listen for the announcement calling "Riders to go pick up their trophies". If you are entitled to a trophy, go pick it up and enjoy. We hope to see you at the next race.

What do I need to race?
ABA Membership
Every rider practicing or competing on any ABA sanctioned track must obtain an ABA membership (ABA License) prior to riding on the track. Memberships can be purchased at the track. There are four types of memberships available, which are as follows:
One-day free membership - For the new rider to have a chance to experience the sport prior to joining with one of the memberships below. This membership is for one practice or one race only and is not transferable or reusable.
Temporary - $25 - For the new rider to the sport. Valid for 30 days at any ABA sanctioned track. This membership allows riders to participate in practice and single-points races. No ABA points will be awarded. If within the 30 day period the rider wishes to become a full (annual) member, they may convert to full membership by submitting the temporary membership receipt with the conversion fee of $25.00.
c. Full (annual) - $45 - Valid for one (1) full year at any ABA sanctioned event. Points will be awarded to all riders competing in any ABA sanctioned race. Points will apply to each rider’s home district. Full membership riders will receive the official membership card and a subscription to the official ABA magazine. Any rider who joins at a local track is entitled to receive a current rulebook, and a BMX New Rider Manual. ($40 second family member; $35 third & subsequent family members)
- Gold Card (upgraded annual) - $100 - All of the characteristics of the Full membership and also includes:
• “Gold Card member only” line at all ABA national events.
• First-class delivery of the official ABA magazine.
• Two (2) “free” Open class entries at any ABA national after racing ten (10) ABA nationals.
• One (1) “free” Open entry at any ABA national after racing twenty (20) single point local races.
• Discount coupon for ABA Racewear (after racing 20 single point races).
• A monthly race history report mailed to their address.
• MCBMX members also receive a tshirt and 4 free local races.
All ABA members receive a secondary medical insurance benefit with a cash deductible.
No ABA membership under any circumstance is transferable or refundable.
All members must submit a birth certificate to the ABA within 30 days of membership purchase.
Important: Every rider MUST show proof of membership at race sign-up. Proof constitutes a current ABA license or a renewal receipt. The ABA makes every attempt to issue a renewal notice to riders prior to their membership expiration. It is ultimately the rider and parent’s responsibility to keep memberships current. Any points earned on an expired license will be forfeit, as there is no officially written grace period. Memberships must be current through the end of the ABA point season (December 15th) to earn year-end rankings and awards.
